"Wobbles the Mind" (wobblesthemind)

The reformulated Genesis executive sedan was unveiled at the Busan International Motor Show last night.
I love this brand!
I know you’re thinking this has the 5.0L V8 again, however it’s actually the new 3.3T V6 engine. In the G90 it makes 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, so I’d expect the same here.
I’ve noticed that there are some subtle tweaks happening to the Genesis grill shape and presentation in order to move it away from Hyundai’s (which looks like Audi’s, Ford’s, Subaru’s...). However, in that shade of red and from that angle, I see all kinds of Mazda6. That said, I think they are closing in on the exact shape they are looking for and I strongly prefer the direction they are going in compared to the shape and presentation used on the 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan.
Here is a video of the Genesis presentation.
Here is Motorgraph taking a look at the models.

The front looks like a mix of Mercedes, Jag, and Audi, with BMW in the back. I wish it were more unique, but it still looks nice and aggressive.

Notice which brands you just listed off and then tell me that’s a bad thing for something people considered to be less than a Chrysler 300 two years ago. Side note, once you get into seeing a ton of different brands it’s usually design trends and shows a progression towards finding the one thing the other 6 brands haven’t done yet. I always cite Maserati-Infiniti-Mazda since they have identical languages but have different proportions and market positions to help differentiate them. Much harder to do when everyone is in the same class with the same cues.

It’s hard to tell from the photos, but the car just looks BIG in proportion, similar to a Taurus or last-gen 300. I’m not sure if this is the styling trend that Hyundai really should be moving toward?
Otherwise I love it and can't wait to drive the production car when it comes out. The V6 is especially exciting.

Sounds like the complaints about the original LS.

Considering the current generation of Genesis is about the same size as the 300.. I’m not sure where you’re driving at..
But, I like how it looks!

I definitely don’t think it’s a really bad thing. I’m a big fan of luxury car designs with grilled that give the impression of giving the middle finger to aerodynamics. And it’s definitely better looking than what Lexus is* currently doing.
*My iPhone insists on making is uppercase when it follows Lexus. I’ve never typed Lexus IS in my life. I can’t decide if that’s cool or really really obnoxious.

Fair enough. Ironically, the first generation LS is one of my favorite luxury designs of that era.

The Genesis Sedan has a wheelbase of nearly 119". That’s nearly identical to a SWB Jaguar XJ. So the styling leans more upsized for luxuty instead of downsized for performance since (Maserati/Alfa Romeo), Jaguar, Cadillac, Infiniti, and even Lexus moved that direction. So BMW left that end of the market and went for comfort and size in order to better compare to Mercedes and Audi in luxury since everyone already knows BMW on the performance side. Genesis is exploiting the huge hole in the market of LUXURY brands offering luxury at a value. Everyone else just created platinum trims of Toyotas and Fords to cover that market, but forgot that badges have meaning.

Not that it isn’t physically the same size, but that it just is designed to “look” big. Another example - compare a 2002 F150 to a current F150 - they're roughly the same dimensions, the new one just looks more imposing.

It’s because it thinks you’re talking about the IS range.

Lexus LS Lexus GS Lexus ES Lexus LFA.
Works for other manufacturers too: Acura TSX. Jaguar XJ. Audi A3.
Yup. I wonder how those models made their way into the dictionary. Is it an algorithm or the automakers send a list to Apple?

With how pedestrian their products are these days, I’m kind of surprised their engineers know there are cars that aren’t Lexus.

With how unreliable my iPhone is, I’m kind of surprised that anyone at Apple has ever heard of Lexus.

Oh, so fancy!
What is that white one? It's pretty. I can't play the video at work, sorry about that.

Genesis “New York” Concept , which hints at the design direction of the upcoming sport models for Genesis and the G70 compact sedan (which should be revealed later this year or early next). So don’t count on the small sedan looking too much like that since it’s develop is practically finished at this point.

Ah, thanks!
On a side note, I am loving my R-Spec. Writing up a piece on it for Oppo, but I need to clean at polish it before I can do the pictures. It's just such a nice car. Did a ~1500 miles road trip in it over the memorial day weekend, and it was soooo nice. I am liking more and more the newer design, and sad there was no R-Spec in the newer style, and they were more than I wanted to pay. On the upside, I feel like $19,000 was a damned nice price for a 50k mile CPO R-Spec. I love your work!

I’m excited to read that! It’s great hearing that model is as awesome and phenomenal of a deal as I imagined. Especially since that version is the best the 1st generation Genesis ever looked and has the 5.0L Tau...hnnng!

Know what Hyundai (or anyone else) needs to eat the Germans’ lunch? TT V6 + AWD + manual + <3500 lbs. We want a new B5 S4.
